The owners of Celtic Crossing are local residents of Dover, a town 20 mins. away from Portsmouth. Long time resident of New Hampshire, Steven Codd grew up at Hampton Beach, working in his family's restaurants. Debra grew up in Mass. and the Midwest, and met Steven at Hampton Beach. With their four children, they now own and run Celtic Crossing. If you come into the Shoppe, on the weekend, you may meet any one of the kids, either helping out or working on their homework!
Celtic Crossing was established in 1998 by previous owners, Judith and Legh Burns. Located one hour north of MA, one hour south of Portland, ME, Portsmouth is an ideal spot for a Celtic shop of it's calibre. Portsmouth contains its own vibrant historical value, with it's working seaport and Naval shipyard. The Strawbery Banke historical district was once the site for export of the pine trees that grow straight and tall, to be used for Her Majesties ships. Around the corner from Celtic Crossing, is the historical home of John Paul Jones, where he lived while waiting for his ship, the Ranger, to be built.
Music and theater are also prominent features of Portsmouth. Almost any day of the week you can find an Irish Session here. In fact, a Celtic band comes into the Shoppe to play during the holidays to give the store a festive and cozy feeling. Around the other corner from Celtic Crossing, is the Music Hall. Newly renovated, it is a premiere site for live performances and film. Celtic bands from Ireland, Scotland and Canada, make frequent stops here.
The seacoast's Celtic connection since 1998, Celtic Crossing and it's owners are dedicated to bringing quality items from Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Cornwall.
